Description

Inspired by a dream I had a few years ago. In the dream, my family moved to a colony on Mars when I was a child, probably around 8 or so. The streets were dirty and red with dust, and the city was filled with refugees and cargo. I was separated from my older sister in the market during some sort of a riot, so I hid behind some crates in an alleyway. When I emerged some time later, as the day was dimming, I found her body in the street. Her skin was smeared with red, from both blood and dirt. Her flesh was pale and cold. And I stood there, looking down at her body, thinking how alone I had just become.

Photoshop CS2.

Here's a quick walkthrough I put together:

I have been thinking on this work for quite a while. I read what you said about its creation but I look at art with only itself as a reference.

This does hit at me hard. You can see that something tragic has happened but there is no indication what it was, or who that body is in relation to the girl. To me the look on her face is the focal point of the piece. Has what I have heard called the "1000 yard stare". She sees but the horror of the sight has detached her from her feelings. She does not have the expected look of horror but she has the "blank look" of one is is completely in shock.

I cant say that I like this piece - but it is very powerful and moving.
